In the last 10 years, over 500 journalists and media workers have been killed worldwide for reporting the news. Many local journalists are often targeted in direct reprisal for their reporting. Journalists reporting on local conflicts, corruption and other illegal activities also face threats of abduction, hostage taking, harassment, illegal arrest and detention. IMS’ Safety and Protection Mechanism combines specialist training with practical safety measures and advocacy, and is implemented together with local journalists, professional associations and NGOs, as well as other international media development organizations.

Danish Arab Partnership Program (DAPP)

The Danish-Arab Partnership Program is Denmark’s collaboration program with the Middle East and North Africa. The program helps to strengthen good governance and ensure economic opportunities, especially for young people and women in the region, through partnerships. Countries of focus are Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan.

Since 2003, Denmark has strengthened its efforts in the Middle East and North Africa as part of the general Danish foreign and development policy. The collaboration program was launched in 2003 as the Arab Initiative and will continue under the name Danish-Arab Partnership Program until 2022. At the core of the Program are the partnerships, where Danish organizations cooperate with similar organizations in the region. The purpose of the Danish-Arab Partnership Program is to promote good governance and secure economic opportunities. Denmark supports targeted efforts in the countries of Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan with one billion Danish kroner over five years from 2017 to 2022.

The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, Sida, is a government agency working on behalf of the Swedish parliament and government, with the mission to reduce poverty in the world. They contribute to implementing Sweden’s Policy for Global Development. The overall objective of Swedish development cooperation is to ensure that people living in poverty and under oppression have the ability to improve their living conditions. To carry out this mission in an effective and strategic way, Sida works broadly across several sectors.

The policy framework for Swedish development cooperation and humanitarian assistance is a central document in Sweden’s aid policy and forms the point of departure for the Government’s management of Swedish aid. It addresses the principles and values that are to guide Swedish aid.
